Vertigo is the sensation that the environment you are in is spinning or moving, it can cause a loss of balance, nausea and light-headedness.
It is predominantly caused by a problem with the balance mechanisms of the inner ear however the more specific causes are:
- Labyrinthitis– an infection of the labyrinth of the inner ear which is a maze of fluid-filled channels that control hearing and balance. An inflamed labyrinth will send information that is different from your unaffected ear and your eyes, this conflict causes the vertigo sensation.
- Vestibular Neuronitis– a viral infection causing an inflammation of the nerve connecting the labyrinth to the brain, usually coming on rapidly it causes acute dizziness and nausea often resulting in vomiting.
- Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)– the most common cause of vertigo it is caused by positional changes for example a fast movement of the head. It causes short but intense, recurring attacks of vertigo usually accompanied by vomiting and rapid eye movement. Affecting predominately older people, it mostly occurs after either ear surgery, a head injury or prolonged bed rest.
- Migraines– a severe and throbbing headache felt at the front of the head is also attributed as being one of the main causes of vertigo
My therapy treats vertigo and dizziness by addressing the root of the problem, removing the pain and allowing normality to be restored. The treatments involve no manipulation, are suitable for all ages, and can be carried out through light clothing if preferred by the client.
Clients generally notice a significant difference after their first treatment. It is not unusual for clients to be completely free of their problem after only two visits.
